A certificate photo on a website proves little by itself. Here is a practical 5-step method to verify a Chinese valve factory's ISO 9001 certificate before you place an order.
Step 1 — Check the Certificate Number Online
Every genuine ISO 9001 certificate carries a certificate number issued by a certification body. For Chinese factories, the body should be accredited by CNAS (or an equivalent international body). Verify the number on the certification body's official certificate search page. If the supplier cannot tell you the body's name or the number does not appear in the database, treat it as a red flag.
Step 2 — Verify the Scope Statement
Read the scope line carefully. It should mention industrial valve manufacturing or a closely related range. A certificate scoped to "trading", "import/export" or an unrelated product line does not certify valve production. Scope wording varies, so if in doubt ask the factory which processes the scope covers.
Step 3 — Confirm Validity Dates and the Certification Body
Check the issue and expiry dates, and that the certificate is still within its validity period (ISO 9001 certificates are typically valid 3 years with annual surveillance audits). Confirm the certification body is a real, accredited organization — not an obscure name that has no online presence.
Step 4 — Ask for Supporting Batch Documents
A certificate alone proves the system, not this specific order. Ask for:
- Material test certificates (MTC / EN 10204 3.1) with heat numbers matching your batch.
- Shell and seat hydrostatic test reports with test pressures matching the valve's rating.
- Third-party inspection reports (e.g. SGS) for independent verification.

Step 5 — Run a Light Factory Check
Ask for a live video call or recent dated photos of the workshop, test bench and the specific valves for your order. A factory running a real ISO 9001 system will usually accept this without difficulty. Combine this with the documentation above and you have covered the practical risks.
