PTFE Lined Butterfly Valve Selection Guide

For corrosive acids, alkalis and aggressive chemicals, a PTFE lined butterfly valve protects the body and provides bubble-tight sealing. This guide covers when to choose it and how to specify it.

Why PTFE Lining

PTFE (Teflon) resists almost all chemicals. A fully lined valve protects the entire body interior — not just the seat — which matters when the medium contacts the body wall in a butterfly valve's flow path.

Full Lining vs Seat-Only PTFE

Full PTFE lined body: the wetted surface is entirely PTFE. Best for continuous corrosive duty, dosing and transfer lines.
PTFE seat only: the body is standard (ductile iron/carbon steel) with a PTFE seat. Lower cost, for moderately corrosive service.

Temperature and Pressure

PTFE lined butterfly valves typically operate from -200°C to +200°C, at PN10/PN16. Confirm the chemical compatibility and temperature with your supplier for each specific medium.

Where They Are Used

Chemical processing, pickling plants (HCl, H2SO4), wastewater dosing, pharmaceutical and any line handling aggressive media.
